Icon Laser Q & A

What is the Icon™ laser?

The Icon laser is an innovative aesthetics technology that allows the practitioners at Central Jersey Family Physicians to address a wide range of cosmetic concerns. The laser has multiple handpieces that make it useful for addressing skin conditions, the signs of aging, unwanted hair, and more.

How can the Icon laser be used?

Central Jersey Family Physicians uses the Icon laser for:

Facial rejuvenation

Are wrinkles and sagging skin making you look older than you feel? The Icon laser can stimulate the production of collagen in your skin. Collagen is the protein that helps it stay taut, elastic, and plump, minimizing the signs of aging.

Removal of unwanted skin features

Your Central Jersey Family Physicians practitioner can adjust the laser to focus on undesirable blemishes and skin concerns, including:

  • Age spots

  • Rosacea

  • Surgery and acne scars

  • Uneven pigmentation

  • Spider veins

By directing the laser into the specific unwanted blemishes, your Central Jersey Family Physicians doctor can safely break them down. Over the coming weeks, your body naturally processes the blemish away, reducing or even eliminating its appearance.

Hair removal

The Icon laser can destroy hair follicles, preventing them from growing hair in the future. You can get Icon laser treatment to permanently remove hair from virtually any part of your body.

What should I expect during and after Icon laser treatment?

The Icon laser is designed with your comfort in mind. At most, you may feel a sensation like a rubber band being snapped against your skin.

Because this treatment is noninvasive, there is no downtime necessary. You can get your Icon laser treatment and continue with your usual daily activities immediately after.

Some people see their desired results with just one Icon laser treatment. Others choose to have multiple treatments to achieve their aesthetic goals. This is especially true of laser hair removal. Your Central Jersey Family Practitioner talks with you about your cosmetic goals then formulates an Icon laser treatment plan to help you reach them. This gives you an idea of how many sessions you will likely need.

Q&A-style overview about face Botox to help clarify common questions and concerns:

What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name for botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein that temporarily relaxes muscles. It’s commonly used in cosmetic treatments to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines.

How does Botox work?

Botox blocks nerve signals to specific muscles, preventing them from contracting. This softens the appearance of dynamic wrinkles—those caused by facial expressions like frowning or squinting.

What areas of the face are commonly treated with Botox?

  • Forehead lines

  • Frown lines (glabellar lines or “11s” between the eyebrows)

  • Crow’s feet (lines around the eyes)

  • Bunny lines (on the nose)

  • Jawline (for slimming or TMJ relief)

  • Chin dimpling

  • Neck bands (platysmal bands)

How long does Botox last?

Results typically last 3 to 4 months, though this can vary by individual. With regular treatments, results may last longer over time.

Does Botox hurt?

Most people describe it as a small pinch. The needles used are very fine, and the procedure is quick. Some practitioners offer numbing cream or ice if needed.

When will I see results?

You may start to see results in 3 to 5 days, with full results visible within 7 to 14 days.

Are there any side effects?

A: Common side effects are usually mild and temporary, including:

  • Redness or swelling at injection site

  • Mild bruising

  • Headache

  • Drooping eyelid or eyebrow (rare and usually resolves on its own)

Who should avoid Botox?

Botox may not be suitable for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals

  • People with certain neurological disorders

  • Those allergic to botulinum toxin or ingredients in the formulation

Always consult a licensed professional for personalized advice.

Will Botox make me look “frozen” or expressionless?

Not if administered correctly. A skilled injector will use just enough to relax wrinkles without eliminating natural movement.

What happens if I stop getting Botox?

Your muscles will gradually return to their normal activity, and wrinkles may slowly reappear. Stopping Botox does not make wrinkles worse—it just reverts to your natural aging process.
